World Archery honorary president Jim Easton dies aged 88
James L. Easton, also known as Jim, the World Archery Honorary President and renowned businessman and philanthropist, passed away in his sleep on December 4, 2023, at 88. As the second-generation leader of the Easton companies, he transformed World Archery from 1989 to 2005, introducing matchplay formats and setting up its first professional office. An IOC member since 1994 and vice president from 2002 to 2006, he later became an honorary member. He pioneered aluminium manufacturing for sporting goods and founded the Easton Foundations in 2007, also supporting the World Archery Excellence Centre in Lausanne. Jim leaves behind his wife, Phyllis, and two children, Greg and Lynn, with Greg having served on World Archery’s executive board. A private memorial will be held, and World Archery will fly its flag at half-mast at the Excellence Centre to honor his legacy.
